Vaginal discharge
Every woman has vaginal discharge, it is something very natural. One woman suffers more from discharge than the other. In addition, it can change somewhat due to your cycle. What does discharge say about your health and when should you worry about the smell or color?

What is vaginal discharge?
Vaginal discharge is your body's natural cleansing mechanism. It is released by the vaginal wall and cervix. Vaginal discharge consists of watery fluid and mucus. This carries away dead cells and harmful bacteria, thus preventing vaginal infections.
Vaginal discharge can vary in color, odor and viscosity. The status is related to the use of the pill, sexual arousal, menstrual cycle, pregnancy and menopause. Your diet can also have an effect on this. Discharge is odorless, but can sometimes smell a bit sour. It looks white and dries yellowish.
Complaints about vaginal discharge
The most common complaints of vaginal discharge are:
- Itching and irritation
- Deviating color
- Dirty choice
- Pain during sex or urination
- More or crumbly discharge
Deviating color
White-gray discharge with a fishy odor: This indicates bacterial vaginosis. Here, certain bacteria dominate the vaginal flora. It can also lead to itching, redness, and swelling.
Pink or brown discharge can indicate that there is blood with the discharge. For example, after childbirth or during menstruation. Do you also suffer from itching or pain? Then it can indicate an inflammation.
Cloudy yellow or green discharge can indicate an STD. The discharge often has an unpleasant odor and you may also experience a burning sensation when urinating or having sex.
Crumbly discharge
Vaginal itching and white crumbly discharge usually indicate a vaginal yeast infection. This often causes redness and irritation and can even cause pain when urinating.
Bad smell
A bad vaginal odor does not always mean something serious. Exercise, diet or using a condom can affect the smell of the discharge.
