Uterus

The uterus is a unique part of the body. There are several unpleasant symptoms associated with the uterus and cervix. We will explore the symptoms, diagnostic procedures, and treatment options to help you better understand these health issues.

What are the symptoms of fibroids?

Fibroids, also known as myomas, are benign growths that occur in the muscle layer of the uterus. Although they are often asymptomatic, fibroids can sometimes cause abnormal menstrual bleeding, menstrual pain, and other symptoms that can affect quality of life.

How do you recognize cervical cancer?

Cervical cancer is a serious disease that is often asymptomatic in the early stages. Later, symptoms such as abnormal vaginal discharge, bleeding during or after intercourse, and changes in menstrual patterns may occur. Regular Pap smears play a crucial role in detecting cervical cancer at an early stage, which increases the chance of successful treatment.

smear

A smear test, also known as a cervical smear, is a simple procedure in which cells are collected from the surface of the cervix. These are then analysed to detect abnormal cells or signs of cancer. Regular smear tests are essential for early detection and treatment of cervical cancer. From the age of 30, all women are invited every 5 years to take part in the population screening for cervical cancer. The smear test can be carried out by your own GP.

What do the PAP test results mean?

The HPV test is a commonly used screening test to see if there are high-risk variants of HPV in the cervix. These variants significantly increase the risk of cervical cancer. If one of these variants is present, a PAP test will be performed. The results are reported based on the PAP classification scale, which ranges from normal (PAP 1) to abnormal (PAP 5). Depending on the classification, additional research may be necessary to confirm the presence of abnormal cells.

Treatments

Treatments for cervical abnormalities vary depending on the severity of the condition and the individual health situation of the patient.
