Ultrasound

At Women's Healthcare Center, in addition to mammography, we also perform ultrasound for breast problems. Ultrasound offers a different view of the breast than mammography and can provide additional information. For women under 30 with breast problems, ultrasound is the appropriate examination method.

Men can also go to Women's Healthcare Center for an ultrasound. Klik hier for more information.

How does ultrasound work?

Using sound waves (echo), the radiologist examines the breast and armpit. During the examination, the radiologist will discuss the findings and expectations with you directly. If necessary, further policy will be determined together with you.

Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves that are emitted by the transducer and picked up again after reflecting off tissues in the breast. This sound does not cause damage, cannot be heard or felt, and carries no risk, unlike x-rays.

Why ultrasound?

Ultrasound is an effective method to detect abnormalities in the breast, especially in women under 30. For women over 30, mammography is the standard, because it also reveals small calcifications that can indicate breast cancer.

The combination of mammography and ultrasound offers the most certainty and provides additional information about various tissues in the breast. Cysts and other abnormalities can often be distinguished immediately. In addition, ultrasound can rule out leakage of silicone prostheses.

What can you expect?

At our center, specially trained lab technicians work who perform the examination with care. You decide how much pressure from the device you can tolerate. If you do not want to undergo a mammogram, you can come to us for breast ultrasound or a possible alternative.

After the ultrasound examination, you will receive the results and our radiologist will take plenty of time to discuss them with you. If abnormalities are found, further examinations such as a mammogram or puncture can be initiated. We strive to have all examinations take place during one visit for your convenience.
