Complications

It has a great personal impact when complications occur. These unintended and unwanted outcomes, which occur during or after medical interventions, can have serious consequences for the patient's health. Sometimes it is necessary to adjust the treatment, but sometimes irreparable damage remains.

What exactly is a complication?

'A complication is an unintended and unwanted outcome during or following medical treatment, which is so detrimental to the patient's health that adjustment of the medical treatment is necessary, or that irreparable damage occurs. A complication can be a 'normal' risk of care, but can also be the result of errors' ( Quality indicators basic set private clinics, IGJ ). Women's Healthcare Center has given practical form to this definition.

The practical definition of a complication is

An unintended or irreparable damage in the period up to 30 days after a treatment, in which the patient has become physically worse, regardless of the final technical result, or; An additional treatment that is necessary during the treatment, which does not logically follow from the initial treatment.

Possible complications

No procedure is without risks. Fortunately, postoperative bleeding is rare, as are infections. Also complications that can occur specifically with a certain procedure are fortunately rare.
