Mammography

With a referral from your GP, you can quickly go for a mammogram. Our experienced radiodiagnostic laboratory technician will take pictures of your breast(s), after which you will meet the radiologist directly to discuss the results. If necessary, an ultrasound of the breast(s) will be made. The radiologist will discuss the findings and any follow-up steps with you directly. Often, no further diagnostics are necessary after these examinations and you can go home feeling reassured.

What is mammography?

Mammography is an X-ray examination that is performed to detect abnormalities in the breast. This examination takes pictures of the breast tissue, which can show abnormalities in the fatty tissue, glandular tissue and connective tissue. The breast tissue is pressed as flat as possible during the mammography to ensure a good image that can be assessed.

We have the latest tomosynthesis mammograph, which also produces 3D mammography images. This offers a valuable addition to standard mammography, allowing abnormalities to be detected better and faster.

Benefits of Women's Healthcare Center

  • Low dose radiation for optimal patient comfort.
  • Less sensitive examination due to the use of comfortable pads and short examination time.
  • High-quality image quality with the option of both 2D and 3D images.
  • Rapid diagnostics: mammography, possible ultrasound-guided biopsy and supplementation with ultrasound within one consultation.

Preparing for the research

In preparation for your outpatient clinic visit, it is useful to think about a few questions and write down your complaints and questions. Bring the following items to the outpatient clinic:

  • Referral from your GP
  • Health insurance card
  • Valid ID
  • Overview of medicines
  • Any other matters mentioned in the appointment letter

Do not use body lotion or talcum powder before the examination to avoid disturbing the images.

Side effects and risks

Pressing on the breast(s) can be painful. Therefore, make the appointment one week after your period when the breast(s) are least sensitive. Our lab technicians and radiologists ensure the lowest possible dose of X-rays, thanks in part to our advanced mammograph.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, please contact our radiologist before the examination. Sometimes the examination is postponed or an ultrasound is chosen.

Costs

If you have been referred by your GP or other specialist, all examinations will be reimbursed by your health insurer. If you have not been referred, the costs will be charged.
