Mammography

With a referral from your GP, you can quickly get an appointment for a mammogram. Our experienced radiology technician takes images of your breast(s), after which you will immediately meet with the radiologist to discuss the results. If needed, an ultrasound of the breast(s) can be performed during the same visit. The radiologist will explain the findings and any next steps right away. In many cases, no further tests are needed, and you can go home reassured.

What is a mammogram?

Mammography is an X-ray examination performed to detect abnormalities in the breast. During this examination, images are taken of the breast tissue, which may reveal changes in fatty tissue, glandular tissue, and connective tissue. To obtain clear images, the breast is gently compressed for a short time.

We use a modern tomosynthesis mammography system, which can also produce 3D images. This technology provides more detailed information than standard mammography and helps detect abnormalities more accurately and at an earlier stage.

Side effects and risks

Compression of the breast(s) may cause some discomfort. If possible, schedule your appointment about one week after your period, when your breasts are usually less sensitive. Our technicians and radiologists use advanced equipment to ensure the lowest possible radiation dose.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, please contact us before your appointment. In some cases, the examination may be postponed or an ultrasound may be recommended instead.

Costs

If you have a referral from your GP or another specialist, the examination is usually covered by your health insurance. If you have not been referred, the costs will be charged.
