Diagnosis of Breast Problems
Assessment of symptoms
Our specialists evaluate symptoms such as a lump in the breast or armpit, nipple discharge, changes to the nipple (such as inversion, redness, or scaling), and changes in the shape or texture of the breast.
Medical imaging
To detect breast abnormalities, we use mammography and ultrasound. Mammography uses X-rays to image the breast, while ultrasound uses sound waves to create detailed images of the breast tissue.
Risk of Breast Cancer
- Breast cancer is rare before the age of 30 and becomes more common with increasing age, especially after 50.
- Approximately 1 in 7 women will develop breast cancer during their lifetime.
- Approximately 5 to 10% of breast cancer cases are related to a hereditary predisposition.
Treatment options and outlook
Early detection of breast cancer is important for the best possible treatment outcomes. The prognosis for breast cancer has improved significantly in recent years due to advances in treatment and research.
