Hormonal disorder

A hormone disorder is a disorder in the hormonal balance. The female body produces many different hormones that regulate the development and growth of the body, but also the functioning of the body, the rhythm and certain metabolism. A hormone disorder can be caused by illness, heredity or congenital.

What does a hormone disorder do?

If there is a hormone disorder in the body, various functions of the body can be disrupted. For example, there can be a decrease or increase in growth and development. Not only can the body be affected by this problem, with hormone disorders, psychological complaints can also occur. In addition, a hormone disorder can reduce fertility.

Types of hormone disorders

There are different types of hormone disorders. We list a number of them.

  • PCOS - this causes minimal or no ovulation and/or reduced fertility. Symptoms include irregular periods, acne, high blood pressure, pelvic pain, depression and hair loss
  • PMS - this causes physical and psychological complaints just before menstruation. The symptoms that come with this are: depression, nervousness, anxiety, aggression, crying fits, stomach ache, headache, palpitations and dizziness.
  • Kallmann syndrome - this causes the absence of puberty and can cause infertility. The symptoms of Kallmann syndrome are: no sense of smell, late development of the genitals, absence of puberty and infertility.
  • Diabetes - this is a high sugar level in the blood. The symptoms are as follows: drinking and urinating a lot, fatigue, eye problems, weight loss and an increased feeling of hunger.
  • Underactive and overactive thyroid gland - this causes excess weight or weight loss and fatigue. The symptoms that come with this are: an increase or decrease in weight, fatigue and loss of concentration, little to no condition, heart palpitations, dizziness, discomfort from cold or heat, muscle cramps and muscle stiffness.
  • Precocious puberty and tardy puberty - this is a too early or too late puberty. Here you can suffer from: the long delay in sexual development or a too early puberty in children.
  • Too slow or too fast working parathyroid gland - this is too low or too high a level of calcium in the blood. You can suffer from: kidney stones, easy bone fractures, psychological complaints and fatigue. In most cases there are no symptoms noticeable.
