Who is a gynecological check-up suitable for?
The gynecological check-up is intended for women who want to understand their fertility, who have specific questions about the menopause phase, or who experience complaints regarding their menstrual cycle. Even if you are simply curious about your body and health, you are more than welcome for a consultation.
What questions can we answer during a gynecological check-up?

- You just want a gynecological check-up to monitor your health.
You do not necessarily have to have a specific complaint to schedule a gynaecological check-up. The point is that you gain insight into your body and can detect any problems at an early stage. Periodic check-ups are recommended to keep a grip on your health and not to continue to walk around with complaints unnecessarily. From the age of 30, you will receive an invitation every 5 years for the population screening for cervical cancer. Participation in this is free of charge. If you have had complaints earlier or would like an extra check-up yourself, ask your GP for a referral. It is important to note that the costs of this are at your own expense.
Is a gynecological examination possible during menstruation?
Yes, a gynecological examination is possible even during your period. However, it is beneficial to schedule the check-up at the beginning of your cycle, when the uterine lining is thinner and the ovaries are less active, which allows for a more accurate examination.
What does a gynecological examination at Women's Healthcare Center involve?
At Women's Healthcare Center, we start with a low-threshold consultation to understand how you are doing and what your needs are. In advance, we will send you a questionnaire that we will discuss together during the appointment. During a gynecological anamnesis, we will get a good picture of your medical history and your current complaints.
We then perform a physical examination, both external and internal, examining the vagina, uterus and ovaries. If necessary, we will take additional blood tests or perform microbiological (culture) and/or pathological examination by, for example, taking a smear or taking tissue samples for laboratory analysis.
Is a gynecological examination possible without a referral?
Yes, you can come to us for a gynecological check-up without a referral, but then the costs are for your own account. More information about this can be found on our page about Zorgverzekering 2025 .
