Fluoride complaints

Fluor Vaginalis is a condition that occurs in many women. Sometimes it goes away on its own, but treatment is often necessary. Although the symptoms are usually annoying but harmless, Fluor Vaginalis can also indicate an STD such as Chlamydia, the consequences of which can indeed be serious.

What is Fluor Vaginalis?

Fluor Vaginalis is a collective name for complaints that have to do with the natural discharge from the vagina. Not during menstruation, but outside of it. Common complaints are for example:
  • Itching in or around the vagina;
  • A different color discharge than normal;
  • A different scent than usual;
  • Crumbly discharge;
  • Pain when urinating or having sex.

Recurring vaginal complaints

A few days of abnormal discharge does not necessarily mean anything. Often the symptoms disappear within a few days and treatment is therefore not necessary. However, in the case of recurring or persistent fluoride symptoms, it is advisable to seek the help of a medical specialist.

How are fluoride complaints treated?

The GP usually refers women with persistent fluoride complaints to a specialist, such as a gynaecologist. This specialist examines the cause and severity of the complaints. Often it is a bacterial imbalance, which is remedied with medication. If there is an STD, the treatment also consists of administering medication.

What can you do yourself?

It is important that the vagina is kept in natural balance as much as possible. The chance of fluoride complaints is reduced if:
  • No vaginal douches or vaginal soap products are used, wash with water only;
  • Cotton underwear is worn;
  • Sanitary pads, tampons and panty liners are replaced regularly;
  • Do not wear clothing that is too tight;
  • Do not change contraceptives unnecessarily too often, as this causes hormonal fluctuations.
