Benign breast conditions
A lump on the breast can quickly resemble breast cancer. However, this can also indicate a benign breast condition. There are different types of lumps in the breast that are benign. Types of Benign Breast Conditions
A benign breast condition is common in women. The condition pushes aside the surrounding tissue, without causing much damage. It cannot spread through the body and does not grow into other tissues. Examples of benign breast conditions are:
- A fibroadenoma, this is a connective tissue lump.
- Cyst, this is a sac filled with fluid.
- Lipoma, a benign tumor of fatty tissue cells.
- Mastopathy, this is a collective name for painful and tense breasts and glandular tissue. Sometimes nipple fluid and cysts are also present.
- Galactocele is a cyst in a breast that is filled with which. This occurs in pregnant and breastfeeding women.
What to do in case of benign breast disease?
A benign breast condition is not harmful or life-threatening, but can be very painful. Are you suffering from complaints? Then have yourself examined at Women's Healthcare Center in Amsterdam. We investigate the cause of the pain. In some cases, an ultrasound / mammogram of the breast is made to provide more clarity. Tissue, fluid or a puncture can also be taken from the breast for further examination.
We will decide together with you which treatment suits you best. A radiological or surgical procedure can be performed.
