Back pain due to abnormality of the uterus
When women experience back pain, they rarely immediately think of causes in the abdomen. However, complaints in the uterus are often the cause of back pain. Conditions such as endometriosis and fibroids are common and can cause both abdominal and back pain. Back pain also occurs regularly during pregnancy. Which complaints can cause back pain and what can be done about it?

Endometriosis
Endometriosis is a disorder of the uterus. The mucus that is on the inside of the uterus is called the endometrium. In a normal situation, this mucous membrane is only in the uterine cavity. With endometriosis, pieces of mucous membrane have ended up outside the uterus. The pieces of mucous membrane are then, for example, in the abdominal cavity, on the peritoneum, in the ovaries, between the uterus and the bladder or the rectum or the intestinal wall.
Endometriosis does not always cause complaints. The complaints differ per person and are related to the location of the pieces of mucous membrane. Fatigue, abdominal pain and back pain can be the result of endometriosis. The complaints are often more severe during menstruation. In many cases, something can be done about the complaint, so do not continue to suffer unnecessarily but seek help from a specialist.
Fibroids
About forty percent of women have a fibroid at some point. That sounds serious, but it usually isn't. Fibroids are benign. Complaints can only arise if the fibroid is very large or is located in an unpleasant place. What exactly is a fibroid? A fibroid is a benign swelling of mainly muscle tissue. This is located in the muscle wall of the uterus. It is unclear how a fibroid develops, but we do know that it grows under the influence of hormones, such as estrogen and progesterone. The size of a fibroid can vary from a fingertip to the size of a large orange. When a fibroid presses against your organs, it can cause complaints, including back pain. If a fibroid causes complaints, it can be decided to remove it surgically.
